Intraoral Camera and Cavity Detection in Redmond
At Redmond Art of Dentistry, Dr. Daniel Bickel is dedicated to using only the very best dental technology to provide better results for all of his patients. At our practice, we use a high-quality SOPROLIFE camera to provide intraoral photography and cavity detection as part of your regular 6-month oral examinations. We invest in technology in order to provide our patients with quality, efficient care.
What Is An Intraoral Camera?
An intraoral camera is any camera used to examine the inside of your mouth, hence the name “intra” (inside) “oral” (related to the mouth).
We use a specialized SOPROLIFE camera. This camera is small and flexible enough to give Dr. Bickel a panoramic view of your entire mouth. It’s about the size of a dental mirror or another small dental tool, so there is no discomfort during the process.
Intraoral cameras include a built-in light source, and connect to an HD video monitor, ensuring that Dr. Bickel can take high-quality video and photographs of every area of our mouth. In turn, this allows for easy and accurate diagnosis of issues such as damaged teeth, gum deterioration, and cavities.
The SOPROLIFE camera can be used in diagnosis aid mode, treatment aid mode, or to take high-quality images of the teeth with “Daylight” mode. Dr. Bickel will catalog all of the images and video related to your appointment, which means that your oral health will be recorded with perfect accuracy.
How Does an Intraoral Camera Help Detect and Treat Cavities?
Most dentists are able to detect cavities early on by simply using a high-quality light source and optical magnification. However, there is always a chance that a simple visual examination will overlook some of the earliest signs of cavities.
An intraoral camera helps Dr. Bickel get a better look at your teeth, and identify the earliest, stages of tooth decay that are difficult to detect. Oral cameras are also very helpful for tracking your overall level of oral health. Because Dr. Bickel will have photos of all of your 6 month dental appointments, he’ll be able to compare photos from each appointment. This lets him quickly assess changes in your oral health, such as issues like gum disease and tooth decay, or teeth shifting.
